Capcom ha anunciado un nuevo Bionic Commando para PS3, Xbox360 y PC en el Capcom Gamers’ Day. Al estar destinado al mercado occidental tiene el diseño hecho en Capcom Japan, pero un productor americano y una desarrolladora europea (la sueca Grin). De momento no hay fecha de lanzamiento anunciada, aunque viendo el estado del juego podría ser durante el 2008.

Está siendo desarrollado por Grin en Estocolmo, Suecia. Son los autores de, entre otros, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) 1 y 2 para PC. Según contaba un directivo de Grin en Art Futura, tenían linea directa con Capcom Japan para documentación y ayuda para herramientas y kits de desarrollo de nueva generación. Grin hace muy poco ha abierto una oficina en la Torre Mapfre de Barcelona, donde trabajan algunos amiguetes mios (¡saludos!).

El productor del juego será Ben Judd (americano), el primer occidental que produce un juego para Capcom Japan. Tal como cuenta en una entrevista para Game Informer (parte I, parte II), Judd empezó desde abajo, desde el departamento de traducción(antes daba clases de inglés en Japón) de Capcom Japan y fué subiendo a base de esfuerzo y mucho trabajo. Luego trabajó codo a codo con los productores japoneses cuando pasó a ser jefe de localización (traducción), de los que aprendió mucho y entabló alguna amistad, especialmente con Keiji Inafune, autor de Mega Man, Onimusha, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Zelda Minish Cup… (ficha en IMDB o Moby Games).

Judd iba a producir inicialmente un Bionic Commando en 2D para PSP desarrollado internamente en Capcom, pero gracias a Inafune llegaría a ser el AAA en 3D para nueva generación que conocemos, lo cual le ha producido muchos quebraderos de cabeza con los ejecutivos al ser occidental.

Ben es un gran fan del Bionic Commando original, y afirma que éste y los Spiderman de PSX son su principal referencia. Tanto él como Grin están muy entusiasmados con el juego que están desarrollando, en el cual están poniendo mucha ilusión, esfuerzo y alguna que otra noche sin dormir.

Judd confiesa que fué el quien puso la voz al prota de Phoenix Wright en el primer podcast de una serie sobre el juego que aparece en el site oficial del juego, en el que también Judd afirma que hará mucho caso del feedback de los fans y la prensa para cambiar y ajustar lo que sea necesario del juego para que sea del agrado de todos.

También protagoniza una excelente entrevista para Gamespot, quien tuvo la exclusiva mundial del anuncio del juego. Por ello han dedicado una sección de su site para el juego, la cual es la mejor fuente de videos y fotos sobre el juego junto al site oficial.
