Entrevista a Ono (SFIV: 2D vs 3D)

Los chicos de 1up han colgado en GameVideos una parte de su entrevista a Ono sobre Street Fighter. En ella se comenta que:

  • La principal cosa que Ono quiere conseguir en este proyecto es mantener el feeling 2D en los combates de 1 vs 1.
  • No quiere que la cámara se vaya moviendo durante la partida.
  • Quiere que la lucha se mantenga en un espacio limitado dentro de las 2D para respetar el espíritu de los SF.

  • El sistema de lucha muy serio, estratégico y profundo define a la saga, por lo que cree se ha de mantener.
  • Frente a la gente que le pide que el juego ha de ser en 3D completas, él quiere mantener la estética del juego por encima de todo, porque así es el Street Fighter más popular, el que la gente tiene en mente.
  • No sería divertido encontrarse un control de botones diferentes, perspectiva diferente y estructura diferente tras tantos años. La gente quiere jugar algo que ya conozcan y comprendan, que les sea familiar.
  • Les ha dicho a la gente de la empresa que si quieren hacer un juego con jugabilidad 3D completa, que no toquen Street Fighter, que hagan en otro juego aparte. Que en esta saga no debería contemplarse esa idea al menos hasta con SF6 o SF7.
  • Han optado por un nuevo camino artístico: gráficos en 3D que parezcan ilustraciones 2D de SF en movimiento, para actualizarse y estar a la altura del mercado actual, pero tomando un camino diferente al resto.
  • No han usado sprites 2D porque ve muy dificil superar la calidad de la animación en SF3, no cree que pudiese notarse una gran mejora usando esta técnica pese haber pasado 10 años, y no podrían aportar nada especialmente nuevo.
  • Al hacer los gráficos en 3D pueden ponerle a la piel tiene algo de transparencia, permitiendo ver venas debajo de la piel, experimentar con el comportamiento de la musculatura, marcando así pliegues o arrugas y cosas por el estilo en tiempo real, como cambiar la forma del músculo al flexionarlo.
  • Al estar en 3D, hay muchas más cosas que pueden hacer ahora al interaccionar con los escenarios. De momento no puede hablar sobre ello, pero más adelante mostrarán cosas muy chulas respecto a los escenarios.
  • Respecto a rehacer los escenarios clásicos en 3D, Ono fué la semana anterior a la entrevista a China, y vió que ya no habian muchas bicicletas por la calle. Harán muchas fases que recordarán mucho a las clásicas, aunque no serán exactamente iguales.
  • Al estar muy cerca cronológicamente a SF2, no se habrán modernizado mucho los niveles, por lo que se parecerán bastante para mantener la misma esencia.
  • Sobre cosas del escenario moviéndose, están experimentando con que al lanzar una bola de fuego o al aterrizar tras un salto se produzca una pequeña onda expansiva que permitirá que ciertas cosas decorativas reaccionen en tiempo real.
  • Por ejemplo, han hecho pruebas con una gallina que al impactar con un hadoken cuando pasaba entre los luchadores se convertía en un pollo a l’ast. Pondrán pequeños detalles como este conforme vayan avanzando con el juego.
  • Pero estas cosas del escenario serán sólo decorativas, para no distraer la atención de los jugadores de los dos luchadores.
  • Espera poder poner algún tipo de reacción en los personajes que muestre el daño que están recibiendo, algo más que magulladuras: por ejemplo si alguien contínuamente recibe golpes en el hombro, quizá le quede algo caído y su animación correspondiente sea más lenta. Pero sólo de forma decorativa, sin que desequilibre o afecte a la jugabilidad.
  • Como los gráficos están en 3D, les ha costado mucho conseguir el sistema de colisiones tal y como lo tienen los Street Fighter en 2D, pero han logrado mantener el estilo.
  • Van a tener en cuenta mucho las expresiones faciales, quieren llegar a hacer en tiempo real lo de las vomitadas de SF2, o lo demacradas que quedaban las caras en las pantallas de Continue, donde incluso los personajes sangraban por los ojos.
  • Quiere mostar a los personajes con muecas de dolor y pómulos deformándose para reflejar mejor que se encuentran en una pelea callejera.
  • Aunque ingame el juego no tiene el mismo estilo “tipo Okami” del trailer, sí lo tendran por ejemplo la tipografía de mensajes tipo “Round 1” y los mensajes de resultado del personaje, la pantalla de título, los menús etc.
  • Aunque ese estilo le encanta, no lo han puesto durante la partida porque piensa que haría que el juego fuese demasiado difícil de jugar.
