La placa recreativa Namco System 256

Sabemos que Street Fighter IV está confirmado que saldrá en arcade. Pero aún no sabemos en qué modelo de placa lo hará.

Basara-X y Fate / Unlimited Codes, serán publicados por Capcom en la placa arcade System 256. Por ello he querido hacer un repaso de las placas arcades, y en concreto este modelo fabricado por Namco.

Las máquinas arcade internamente llevan una placa madre, también llamada placa recreativa. En algunos casos, como en las Capcom CPS1 o CPS2, se les conectaba una segunda parte que contenía el juego en sí, siendo éste una especie de cartucho con memoria de la famila ROM.

A su vez, su arquitectura técnica pasó de ser propia a estar basadas en PC o en la de consolas de videojuegos domésticas para abaratar costes y facilitar el port de la versión doméstica.

Estas placas a nivel técnico suelen ser prácticamente igual que la consola en la que se basan pero con más memoria. Por lo general, sus juegos se almacenan en CD y DVD, en lugar de en memorias ROM.

Tekken 5 System 256

Namco hizo las placas recreativas System 11 y System 12. En ellas se basó Capcom para hacer las placas ZN1 (Street Fighter EX, Rival Schools…) y ZN2 (Street Fighter EX 2, Strider 2…). Más tarde, Namco se basó en Playstation2 para hacer las System 246 y System 256.

Namco ha hecho estos juegos para System 256 : Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 5, Tekken 5.1, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, Tekken 6 (Namco), Time Crisis 4.

Otras compañías han hecho estos juegos para esta placa : Super Dragon Ball Z (hecho por Craft & Meister , Spike y Arika, distribuido por Banpresto y Namco), Mobile Suit Gundam Vs Gundam (Banpresto), The Battle of Yu-Yu-Hakusho (Banpresto).

Como Street Fighter IV está pensado para ser multiplataforma en la nueva generación, dudo que lo saquen para arcade en una máquina que viene a ser una PS2. Y usar un modelo basado en X360 o PS3 quizá sea demasiado caro.

Creo que quizá lo más posible es que sea una placa basada en PC al estilo de las Taito FX2, pero más potente. Mmmm… ¿y le podrían llamar CPS-4, no? 😉
