Los padres “desconocidos” de Street Fighter

Normalmente se consideran como los padres de Street Fighter a Yoshiki Okamoto (kihaji), Akira Yasuda (Akiman), Akira Nishitani (Nin) o Noritaka Funamizu (Poo), de quienes haremos reportajes monográficos en un futuro próximo.

Ellos han tenido una importancia vital en la saga, así como en muchos otros juegos de Capcom, pero no empezaron a trabajar en esta saga hasta Final Fight o Street Fighter II World Warrior.

Antes salió el primer Street Fighter, desarrollado por un equipo totalmente diferente formado por, entre otros, los que más tarde fueron las cabezas visibles de los equipos que han hecho los principales juegos de lucha de SNK o Dimps.

Hoy veremos los créditos de Street Fighter 1 y repasaremos la carrera de sus principales miembros:

Takashi Nishiyama

Tras dirigir Avengers, Last Duel y Led Storm, fué el director de Street Fighter 1 (en los créditos aparece como Piston Takashi). Al acabar el juego dejó Capcom para fichar por SNK, donde básicamente hizo de productor hasta que SNK cerró por bancarrota en el 2001.

En SNK primero trabajó en The King of Fighters 95, 96, 97, 98 y 99, Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 3, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special Dominated Mind, Art of Fighting 3, Metal Slug 2 y Metal Slug X.

En SNK también trabajó de productor en títulos menos conocidos como Neo Turf Masters, Ghost Pilots, Savage Reign, Kizuna Encounter , The Ultimate 11 : SNK football championship y fué productor ejecutivo de Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage.

Allí también produjo juegos para Neogeo Pocket, como SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighter’s Clash, Sonic, King of Fighters R-1 y R-2.

Hiroshi Matsumoto

Bajo el pseudónimo de Finish Hiroshi, fué el diseñador / planner de Street Fighter 1, y al igual que el director del juego, dejó Capcom para irse a SNK al terminar el desarrollo de este juego.

En SNK trabajó en Fatal Fury (músico), Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting (director), Art of Fighting 2, Art of Fighting 3 (productor) y fué productor asociado en Robo Army.

Actualmente es el managing director de la board of directors de Dimps. Allí hizo de productor ejecutivo en títulos como Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 y 2 y fué productor en Inuyasha : A Feudal Fairy Tale (InuYasha Sengokuotogigassen en Japón) y Sonic Advance (el de GBA).

Hiroshi Matsumoto es un nombre común en Japón, por lo que aunque este nombre aparece en los créditos de otros juegos de varias empresas, realmente se trata de otras personas.

Por ejemplo hemos encontrado a un animador/es 3D de cinemáticas de Capcom (Dead Rising, Dino Crisis 3), Bandai (Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex), y Koei (Crimson Sea), un programador en Treasure (Stretch Panic, Silhouette Mirage y Mischief Makers) y un doblador en Enix (Valkyrie Profile).

Yoshihiro Sakaguchi

Conocido también con los sobrenombres de “Yukichan’s Papa”, “new half yoshihiro” o “Oyabun”, es tras el genio Tamayo Kawamoto, el músico más importante de los primeros años de Capcom ya que se encargó de la música y los efectos de los siguientes juegos:

El gran éxodo de Capcom a SNK y Arika

Por cierto, Takashi Nishiyama e Hiroshi Matsumoto no son las únicas personas que tras trabajar en juegos de Street Fighter se fueron a SNK.

Allá por 1992, en occidente Mortal Kombat tenía mucho éxito y estaba a punto de salir Mortal Kombat 2. Capcom necesitaba hacer un sucesor digno del éxito del Street Fighter II original para reafirmarse a nivel mundial como la número 1 del género.

Acababa de sacar Super Street Fighter II Turbo, y ya había exprimido demasiado SF2 haciendo demasiados juegos con muy pocos cambios y cada vez con menos éxito. Los desarrolladores estaban muy presionados, y la mitad del equipo del SF2 original se fué a SNK en 1993, donde desarrollaron Samurai Shodown, conocido como Samurai Spirits en Japón.

Un poco más tarde, en 1995, junto Namco y Square Capcom funda Arika, a la cual se van Akira Nishitani (Nin Nin) junto a otros miembros del Street Fighter II original. Nishitani sería el presidente de la empresa y Ichiro Mihara (Square) el vicepresidente.
