En un artículo escrito de Justin Marks (guionista de la nueva película de Street Fighter, Halo y He-Man entre otras) para Gamasutra, nos comenta algunas cosas sobre películas basadas en videojuegos.
Nos comenta que como gran aficionado que es a los videojuegos, el negocio de las adaptaciones de videojuegos a la pantalla grande ha sido lamentable, pone como ejemplo Double Dragon y Super Mario Bros, y que mucha culpa de ello es que los cineastas no tenían presentes al videojuego al realizar el film ya que no estaban acostumbrados a convivir con ello.
También tiene importancia al público a las que va dirigido, al pre-adolescente, que ese suponía que era el habitual consumidor de videojuegos de la época, así que descartaban hacer películas serias y fieles a los juegos, algo que es normal teniendo en cuenta que la primera premisa en la industria del cine, es beneficiarse del producto sin importar la calidad de este.
Esto está cambiando día a día, ya que muchos cineastas y creativos, son gente joven y grandes aficionados a los videojuegos, Justin incluso destaca que que mantiene una relación muy estrecha con muchos de ellos y que juegan cada noche por el Xbox Live.
Pone como ejemplo de esta evolución a las películas de cómics, y que nadie se las tomaba en serio hasta que apareció el film de Blade, y hoy en día podemos ver grandes películas basadas en cómics como la saga X-men o Batman Begins.
Se considera un gran fan de Halo, y lo considera como máximo exponente en lo que a videojuegos se refiere, y que espera que hagan una adaptación lo más fiel posible (cosa que está intentando Bungie), pero que a leído guiones, y pese a ser bastante buenos no han convencido, necesitan uno perfecto para hacer una gran película que sea un éxito absoluto.
Finalmente nos cuenta que la película de Street Fighter está en periodo de pre-producción y que aún falta bastante para dar más detalles, pero que le consta que será una buena película, y que incluso le gustaría escribir en un futuro sobre una posible adaptación en videojuego del film.
