En la entrevista a David Sirlin -el diseñador jefe de Backbone que está haciendo los retoques en la jugabilidad para Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix- hay pocas novedades:

Defiende -otra vez- los cambios jugables que está haciendo, afirmando que no afectarán negativamente a los jugadores de alto nivel para torneos y demás. En cambio beneficiará a los novatos permitiéndoles llegar a un nivel intermedio más rápidamente.

Esto se debe a que aunque simplifica la ejecución de los comandos más complejos, siguen teniendo muchísima más importancia el timing y la estrategia, por lo que sólo les está quitando la barrera que supone a los novatos el realizar las combinaciones de botones más complejas.

La mayoría de retoques son pequeños ajustes en cajas de colisiones, tiempo de recuperación tras un ataque, distancia a la que se mueve el personaje, tiempo durante el que inflinge o recibe daño, espacio que se desplaza, etc.

Para estos cambios modifican directamente los datos del juego, sin usar hojas de Excel para facilitar las cosas. Sirlin se sacó la carrera de matemáticas en el prestigioso MIT de la Universidad de Massachusets, por lo que sólo necesita ayuda de los programadores para las cosas más complejas.

Dice que no ha hablado con el equipo que realizó el juego original ya que muchos de sus miembros ya no están en Capcom. Aunque sí pudo intercambiar algunas palabras con Yoshiki Okamoto, quien poco podía comentar ya que desde hace tiempo no trabaja en Street Fighter.

No ha podido meter nuevos movimientos como el dash ya que el código está en ensamblador y supondría mucho trabajo, saliéndose del presupuesto. Además, cree que supondría demasiado cambio sobre Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Lo ve bien para un juego diferente, pero no para una revisión como viene a ser el caso.

Aunque sí han podido meter algo como el falso Hadoken para Ryu (ya visto en algún juego anterior) o la falsa patada en deslizamiento para Bison, movimientos que cuadran bien en el conjunto y no les suponía mucho trabajo al reaprovechar gran parte de otros movimientos ya existentes en el juego.

Está intentando refinar y mejorar el juego sin alejarse mucho para preservar la esencia original y sin manchar el resultado. Respecto a los cambios en los gráficos, dice que esto no implicará cambios en las cajas de colisión, y que el modo en panorámico prácticamente sólo re-escala la imagen por lo que no afecta mucho a la partida.
