Capcom Annual Report 2008: Capcom llegará a España

Al final de cada año fiscal, Capcom publica un gran documento para sus accionistas en los que resume sus resultados del año fiscal y explica su estrategia de futuro. Pues bien, ayer por la noche publicaron el del año fiscal 2008, el cual acabó el pasado 31 de marzo.

Este año ha sido el 25 aniversario de la empresa,  muestra unos resultados record. Pero como los principales números ya los mostramos en su día, esta vez nos centraremos en las novedades y otros apartados que os haran más gracia.

Se centrarán en occidente

Quieren centrarse en el mercado occidental porque supondrá el 80% de sus ventas. Tanto el sur como el este de Europa, así como Australia (destacan a España e Italia), han mostrado un gran crecimiento. Por tanto dirigirán más apoyo al desarrollo y el marketing dirigido a occidente.

Tras hacer un excelente trabajo restructurando su filial americana, la cual funciona viento en popa, quieren hacer lo mismo en Europa. Se debe a que Europa es el mercado con mayor crecimiento y se espera que supere en breve al americano, convirtiéndose así en el primer mercado mundial.

Quieren evitar fusionarse con otras grandes empresas japonesas. En su lugar, prefieren crecer comprar amistosamente o hacer colaboraciones con empresas -especialmente de occidente- para crecer en occidente, ya que ese mercado está en alza mientras que el japonés está en declive. Un ejemplo es su reciente compra del desarrollador K2 (por ejemplo trabajaron en Lost Planet).

También en occidente, y especialmente Europa, quieren pasar del actual modelo de distribuición al de venta directa. Es decir, quieren tener mayor presencia en los países para adaptarse mejor al mercado y vender ellos mismos los juegos, sin necesidad de intermediarios.

Quieren centrar especialmente este formato de venta en los mercados emergentes. Tras restructurar la sucursal inglesa y adaptarla a este formato, abrieron la alemana, seguida de la francesa esta primera mitad del año fiscal, y en el siguiente esperan abrir la sucursal española.Single Content x Multiple Usage (múltiple uso de un mismo contenido)

Es el nombre de su estrategia de usar una licencia de videojuego también en otros mercados. Aunque lo han hecho siempre, quieren potenciarlo para sacar más beneficio de sus sagas.

Estos otros mercados por ejemplo son películas, anime, cómics, libros, bandas sonoras, juegos para teléfonos móviles, máquinas de pachinko y pachislo, figuras, juegos on-line para PC…

Ponen como principal ejemplo a Street Fighter, aunque muestran también los casos de Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney, Resident Evil e incluso Onimusha, del cual preparan una película para el futuro.

“Resident Evil: Extinction” ha superado los 140 millones de dólares, resultando la película que ha generado más beneficio de las 3.

Desarrollo de juegos

Este apartado seguirá siendo la parte central de la empresa. Consideran que los juegos de acción y aventura son su fuerte, viendo las ventas. Continuarán con su estrategia multiplataforma en las principales sagas, usando su motor MTFramework.

Se centrarán en publicitarlos por Internet, y continuarán con el desarrollo en paralelo de las diferentes versiones apoyándolas por igual, para tener un mayor mercado y tener todo abarcado independientemente de que funcione una u otra consola en cada mercado en esta guerra de formatos a lo largo del tiempo.

Ventas anuales bombazos

Este año han conseguido grandes ventas en todas las consolas, y en móviles ya son la cuarta empresa con mejores ventas en USA (la primera de las japonesas). Ya tienen 47 juegos de consola que han vendido más de 1 millón de unidades.

Dicen que el mercado se ha diversificado, ya que gracias a Wii, DS y móviles han entrado nuevos jugadores casuales, mientras que los más hardcore se mantienen en sistemas como Xbox360 al preferir el juego on-line.

En consola y PC esperan lanzar 78 nuevos títulos y vender un total de 18 millones de unidades en el actual año fiscal.

Street Fighter

La versión doméstica de Street Fighter IV saldrá a la venta este año fiscal (antes del 31 de marzo del 2009), y la película de Street Fighter se estrenará en Febrero del 2009. Se espera que ambos salgan aproximadamente por las mismas fechas para aprovechar el tirón promocional.

Street Fighter IV es el ejemplo de que desean renovar su negocio de arcade, sacando nuevos títulos basados en sus videojuegos de éxito.

Tras un detallado análisis de las cifras del año fiscal que ya explicamos en su dia, el documento acaba con unas palabras de Keiji Inafune, Jun Takeuchi (RE5), Ryozo Tsujimoto (MH2ndG), Ben Judd (Bionic Commando), Takeshi Tezuka (juegos para teléfonos móviles – Japón), Midori Yuasa (juegos para móviles – occidente), Toshihiro Tokumaru (peli nueva de SF), Yoshinori Ono (SFIV) y Jyunya Aoki (arcades).

  3. Bueno, por lo que me dijo Sven, todos los juegos van a venir traducidos. Se ve que lo de Okami fué una excepción, y que con la nueva estrategia de que quieren acercarse más a los europeos, lo traducirán todo en condiciones (mirad aqui https://capcom-town.es/2008/09/08/volvemos-de-vacaciones-pasado-presente-y-futuro-de-capcom-town/ en el penúltimo párrafo).

    Cuando tengan una oficina aquí, estas quejas de las cuales son conscientes y están trabajando para arreglarlas no sólo vendrán de los fans, sinó también de su propia sucursal. Por lo cual podemos estar totalmente tranquilos.

    Respecto al traer todos los Monster Hunter, de momento no he dicho nada porque no es oficial, pero en PS3 acaban de implementar una función que permitirá que ciertos juegos de PSP en un principio no preparados para jugar on-line puedan hacerlo.

    La PS3 funcionaría para crear los lobby, gestionar el chat de voz y permitir el on-line a la PSP. Este nuevo servicio gratuíto de momento tiene un juego confirmado : Monster Hunter Portable 2ndG.

    Me han llegado rumores de que están esperando a lanzar el Monster Hunter 2nd G en occidente una vez dicho servicio esté disponible en las PS3 mediante actualización de firmware. No los he publicado porque de momento no son muy fiables, aunque sé que Capcom ha estado encuestando a franceses e ingleses sobre si estarían interesados en jugar on-line a un Monster Hunter.

    Aunque lo dicho, si no lo he publicado en un post es porque no estoy muy seguro. Ya informaré cuando tenga algo palpable.
