Hace un mes, Capcom anunció Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition en la conferencia de Sony del Tokio Game Show, una ampliación de dicho juego que saldrá en primavera del 2010 en Playstation 3 y Xbox 360.

Lo presentaron allí porque será uno de los títulos de lanzamiento del nuevo sistema de detección de movimiento de Sony para PS3, el cual de momento se conoce temporalmente como PS Wand o Sphere, el cual permitirá jugar en la versión de PS3 usando el sistema de control de Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.

Sphere utiliza un nuevo controlador con forma similar al Wiimote, pero con una bola en la punta que cambia de color que es detectada por la cámara del PS Eye para detectar posición, profundidad y rotación, lo cual es apoyado por la emisión de infrasonidos (indetectables al oido humano) a los 4 micrófonos direccionales el PS Eye, y por la tecnología Sixaxis que lleva incorporada para detectar el orientación rotacional y la aceleración transicional en los 3 ejes dimensionales.

Esto permite un control de movimiento y rotación en 3D similar al de Wii, pero con una velocidad de reconocimiento y una precisión muchísimo mayor. La Alternative Edition no soportará el sistema de detección de movimiento Natal de Xbox 360 porque aunque está previsto para 2010 aún no tiene fecha definitiva.

Debido a las bajas ventas de los contenidos de descarga en Japón, el título aparecerá allí en disco. Para el resto del mundo, tanto en CapcomUnity como en Capcom-Europe se realizó una encuesta pública para saber si los usuarios lo preferían como una ampliación via descarga o como un juego nuevo en disco.

En USA ganó la descarga por bastante, pero en Europa ganó la versión en disco por un resultado similar. Por tanto aún no está seguro como nos llegará. Estos son los resultados de ambas:

Esta versión contará con nuevo contenido, del cual sólo se ha mostrado un nuevo episodio jugable llamado “Lost in Nightmares“, en el que Chris y Jill visitan una mansión Spencer muy similar a la del primer Resident Evil (no es la misma), en unos hechos que aparecen brevemente en forma de flashback en Resident Evil 5.

En el video de abajo corresponde a dicha conferencia de Sony, y se muestra cómo se juega al juego (a partir del 2:15). En él puede verse a un chico de Capcom usando un DualShock3 a modo de Nunchaku de la Wii.

Takeuchi afirmó que esta solución era temporal, ya que el diseño del controlador no es final y aún no se sabe si tendrá un analógico o si Sony añadirá otro dispositivo tipo “Nunchaku“, y que por otro lado la versión mostrada no era el juego final, sinó una versión preliminar para hacer pruebas con el uso de la detección de movimientos.

En una entrevista a Famitsu, también afirmó que el juego contendrá todo el contenido que pensaron incluir inicialmente para RE5 pero no pudieron por cuestiones de tiempo, así como todo el contenido de descarga del juego original.

Resident Evil Alternate Edition

Dijo que él se pasó el nuevo capítulo en 1 hora y 40 minutos, por lo que supone que los jugadores tardarán unas 2 horas,  que se podrá importar partidas, trofeos/logros, etc. de RE5 y también que están contemplando añadir nuevos trajes y demás.

Chris Kramer ha afirmado que Alternate Edition pese a añadir nuevos contenidos no llevará a las consolas el modo de visualización en 3D de la versión PC de Resident Evil 5,  pese a que dicha tecnología llegará a PS3 el año que viene.
